You can also play on a playmat with no areas displayed. However, to ensure that the game goes smoothly, it's important to keep the same locations as those shown above.

Battlefield

The Front Line and the Back Line are called the “Battlefield”. This is where units are deployed.

> Front Line Area

This is where your Main Unit is placed before the start of the game. There is no limit to the number of units that can be deployed in this area.

There can be no empty Front Line Area for the defending player. If this happens, all the player's Back Line Area units move to the Front Line Area. This is called the Forced march.

> Back Line Area

This area can be empty, and there is no limit to the number of units that can be deployed. A unit cannot be in this area if your Front Line Area is empty when it's your opponent's turn, which triggers a Forced march.

Orb Area

Orbs are represented by cards and can be compared to the life points of your Main Character. Before the start of the game, place five cards face-down in this area.

Defeat of the Main Character

Each time your Main Character is defeated, an orb card is taken and placed in your hand (you can choose in which order to take them). If you have no cards left and your Main Character is defeated again, you lose the game.

Boundless Area

Boundless cards cannot be retrieved, even when the Deck is empty.

Support Area

At the start of a battle, place a card from the top of the deck to support the unit in combat. Support can succeed or fail.

Successful support

A support is considered successful if the names of the two units are different. In this case:

  • Add the support value to the attack strength of the unit in combat.
  • Activate the support skill if the support unit has one. The attacking player has priority in activating the skill.

At the end of the battle, the support card is sent to the Retreat Area.

Failed support

If support fails because both cards have the same unit name (e.g. Corrin (M) cannot support Corrin (M)), the card is immediately sent to the Retreat Area.

Deck

Place your Deck face-down in this area, and use it as a draw pile.

If you have no cards left in your deck, shuffle immediately all the cards in your Retreat Area to form a new draw pile.

Retreat Area

Discard pile. This is where defeated units, support cards, cards used as costs, etc. are discarded. Place face up.

Bond Area

Cards placed in this area become Bonds and are used to deploy units, level up/class change, etc.

By convention, each new Bond is placed on the left. To indicate that a Bond has been used, move it to the right.
